This is an update from SoundDiver 2.0.x to 2.0.10. It will not run if you have not installed and authorized this older version.
Users of version 1.5.x must first upgrade to version 2.0 which is not free.
Users of an OEM version of SoundDiver (SoundDiver EOS, SoundDiver K5000, SoundDiver Trinity, SoundDiver E-Prime, SoundDiver Alesis, SoundDiver POD, SoundDiver JV/XP) must first upgrade to the full version.
Please contact your Emagic distributor for upgrade info.
If you are not yet a SoundDiver user, we recommend to check out the demo version which you can find on www.emagic.de/english/support/download/demo.html.
You can purchase SoundDiver from your local Emagic retailer.
Installation
• As the StuffIt file is already unstuffed, installation is complete. Simply start the file "SoundDiver 2.0.10".
• If you want to use your own Adaptation files, copy them from your old Diver folder to folder SoundDiver 2.0.10:Diver. Please note the new file name conventions (see below). You will have to rename your own Adaptation files.
Important notes on the copy protection
• The hard disk authorization is saved in a hidden file "SoundDiver.key" in the root directory of the Start Volume. Never try to rename, change, delete, copy or move this file. This would render the file invalid, and you lose one authorization count.
• If you want to reformat or repartition a hard disk, you must deauthorize SoundDiver before. Otherwise the authorization file would become invalid.
• If you start from a different Volume, you must authorize this Volume separately. SoundDiver searches for the authorization file only in the Start Volume.
• You can easily use different copies or versions of SoundDiver (even altenatively), as always the same authorization file is accessed. The SoundDiver application file does not contain authorization information and thus can be easily deleted, copied or moved.
A word on the SoundDiverBox BBS
The SoundDiverBox BBS (run by FirstClass, +49-4101-495-190 and -192) has been switched off. As all updates are available from our web site, we think it is no more required. There is also a SoundDiver users mailing list on the Internet, so the SoundDiverBox's forums are no more required as well. To subscribe to this (unofficial) mailing list, please refer to http://www.logicuser.net/lists/index.html.
New features in version 2.0.10
All platforms
• New Librarian Adaptaton for Yamaha 02R. Note: not really tested, reports appreciated.
• Universal Module Adaptation editor: new optional MIDI Strings "Outgoing Bank Dump" and "Outgoing Single Dump". This allows to create Adaptations for devices which have different messages for incoming and outgoing dumps, e.g. Octave Plateau Voyetra 8.
• XG: The models MU10, WF192, SW1000XG and DB50XG cannot be scanned because they do not response. They must be installed manually. This is now shown by an alert message during installation.
• M1 module now also supports M1EX and Invision PLUS+1 expansion. There is a new flip menu in the Special Parameter area where you can select the installed waveform extension.
Important bug fixes in version 2.0.10
All platforms
• If a Module does no more support a model (e.g. PRO2000: Audity 2000), there was a crash when accessing the device. Now you get a warning message.
• When loading old Preferences which contain device entry data which is too short (e.g. MW Microwave Waves: old version used only 32 instead of 64 FFT values), the entry data was allocated with the wrong (old) size. This could cause very strange crashes later. Now the allocated size is the maximum of what the Module expects and what is stored in the prefs file.
• FS1R: copying Programs to the clipboard could cause random crashes later (Windows version: especially when opening or closing windows)
• QS: Mix editor: selecting a Program from banks P2 and P4 selected the same-numbered Program from bank USER instead; selecting a Program from banks P3 selected the same-numbered Program from bank P1 instead.
Mac only
• Two-digit screensets and locked screensets were displayed as "..." in Mac OS 8.5 and higher.
• "Save Library for Logic Song" did not work in AutoLink/OMS mode. Note: you also need Logic Audio 4.0.5 or higher.
Windows only
• SY77: wrong display of sample data (Intel big/little endian swapped).
• MW: Scanning entered a wrong version number (-16.00), resulting in minimum support, although a newer firmware is installed.
New features in version 2.0.9
All platforms
• FS1R: Mute buttons for the operators added
• PRO2000: Added front panel editor.
• New Module SE70 for Boss SE-70. This will replace the old Adaptation.
• New Module TD10 for Roland TD-10.
• New Librarian Adaptation for novation Nova. Thanks to Micky Lauer (www.Vanille.de/novastation/)
• Supernova: now supports OS 3.0 single dumps
Mac only
• When quitting in stand-alone mode (not in AutoLink!), all Unitor8 and AMT8 are now reset to Patch Mode.
• If MIDI interfaces are connected to multiple computer ports, there is no more MIDI output done on non-existent MIDI ports while scanning. This should improve scanning speed significantly in large setups.
Windows only
• New switch "Ignore MIDI In errors" in Preferences.
Important bug fixes in version 2.0.9
All platforms
• Problems with Modules which received MIDI data with timeout 0 ms (DMPro, DP4, M1, M3R, PRO, PRO2000, QS, Synapse, T1, TS, Ultrapro, VFX).
• "Out of Memory" when an Adaptation receives data for an entry of arbitrary size (e.g. Generic, Generic SysEx). Bug was introduced in 2.0.7
• Setting of "Basics > Button Selection > Right or upper" in Mouse control panel is now taken into account
• Modules which make MIDI output in idle (e.g. Unitor8): MIDI output could go to the wrong MIDI out port, resulting in SysEx communication error messages, e.g. if you have Unitor8/AMT8 connected to different computer ports.
• If files could not be opened twice (in the error alert, Cancel button was pressed), crash after second error alert.
• Transmitting a bank dump in all Adaptations where the entry data size is not an integer multiple of the bytes which can be transmitted in one packet (e.g. 8x7 packed, MSBits first, Quadraverb, Dr. Boehm, Doepfer, QS/DMPro) did not work, e.g. Zoom 9010, Korg Z1.
• GR-30: revised Adaptation. Old Adaptation did not work well;
fixed some scramled steps in the arpegiator editor
changed the bank display to 0-127 instead of roland banks
Note: save your entries in the Preferences as a Library before updating this Adaptation, then "Load and Transmit" this Library. Otherwise, the entry data in the Preferences will be garbled.
Thanks to Claude Voit.
• JV1080: XP-30 was scanned as JV-1010.
• K2000:
• Checksum errors were reported for certain K2500s.
• single parameter changes didn't work with non-KDFX K2500s
• MR:
• editing the ZR-76 did not work (ZR-76 uses model ID 1 instead of 4 as documented)
• no more crashes when trying to display illegal values in editors.
• PRO2000:
• Additional ROMs (Protozoa, ...) were not recognized.
• Multisetup items were missing. The memory manager contained only the current multisetup.
• Copying of FX Cord parameters and layer keyboard range parameters didn't copy all parameters.
• Switching between ROMs in the Multisetup channel parameters didn't work. Note: this only works since OS 1.04, before that there was a bug in the P2K OS which prevented changing the channel ROM IDs in the Multisetup.
• SY85: switching between Voice and Performance Mode is now automatic, however you have to hit EXIT at the front panel.
• WS: wrong bank assignments in AutoLink name providing for Program Change values > 50
Mac only
• MIDI Thru'ing data and starting the internal sequencer caused a crash on systems with MacOs without USB support. Bug was introduced in 2.0.8
• SoundDiver opened all non-virtual OMS MIDI In Devices which cause problems with OMS drivers which receive incoming MIDI data both on the root device and the sub-port device, e.g. Roland Super MPU64 (SysEx is not merged correctly).
Now, SoundDiver opens multi-port interfaces' root devices only if they have no sub-port devices.
• Click on "More Options" in Find dialog: crash
Windows only
• In AutoLink mode, MIDI output for Patchbay Prg and Standard Prg could not be set.
• Name fields in editors: entering characters with modifiers did not work, except uppercase characters.
• Key Command Ctrl-Shift-I (Set Logic Instrument) did not work.
• Saving libraries with "Save" which have been loaded using a relative path (i.e. are placed in the SoundDiver folder or one of its sub-folders) did not work
• All Modules which have text resources have been recompiled, as they have been ported incorrectly from Mac to Windows since 2.0.7, resulting in several problems (e.g. "**Bad Num**" in U20).
• WS: Wavesequence wave number, time, crossfade and duration values were corrupted in certain cases when transmitting a Wavesequence block.
New features in version 2.0.8
All platforms
• During lengthy operations, redraws (e.g. names of just received entries) are now done more often (not at most once per second, but taking up at most 10% of CPU power); especially useful when receiving bank dumps
• If the Universal Module Cache file contained duplicate entries, they are now removed automatically. The removal happens only once, so startup is still fast.
• New Module PRO2000 for Proteus 2000 and Audity 2000. Note: PUBLIC BETA! It is only partially tested with the Audity 2000, as E-mu has not been able to send us a test unit.
• EOS: Multi is always available if an E4X Ultra or e6400 Ultra is installed manually.
• EX5: Muted elements are now restored when switched on again in EX5/EX5R/EX7 (non-drum-)voices.
• K2000: KDFX objects may be switched on or off by switch in special parameters box (in case the K2500 was installed manually, not by scanning, and SoundDiver therefore doesn't know the KOS version.
Mac only
• If an Adaptation file does not have the ending ".ADA", you get a warning message.
Important bug fixes in version 2.0.8
All platforms
• When requesting a bank, and device does not react with the appropriate bank dump, but does react at the scan request, SoundDiver hung until ESC is pressed
• 01W: Effect send levels C and D were missing in Program Editor
• K5000: Bank dumps are no more used when requesting or transmitting banks, as this seems to be unreliable.
• M1, M3R: Crash when editing effects parameters of second effect in combi editor.
• K2000: K2500 programs showed false links to stereo keymaps in mono keymap mode.
• QS: Name Providing used Bank Select 32 (LSB) instead of 0 (MSB).
• WS: SysEx communication error when requesting bank dumps, and if "Additional Timeout" is very small or zero.
Mac only
• MIDI Thru and sequencer did not work. Bug was introduced in 2.0.7
• Corrupt data and/or crashes possible with certain Modules (e.g. DP4) while receiving MIDI data in low memory situation.
• Duplicate entries in Install window if an Adaptation file exists twice (once with ".ADA", once without)
Windows only
• In some cases, message "The system could not find the specified file." when trying to re-load a Library while loading preferences.
• When trying to abort the request of several entries with ESC, often the message "Incoming buffer pending, but not returned." was displayed, and aborting did not work. Bug was introduced in 2.0.7
• AutoLink MIDI communication was not done via Logic, so Logic could not record SoundDiver's output. Bug was introduced in 2.0.7
• Switch "Synchronize Screensets" was missing in preferences in AutoLink mode.
• MWII: MW PC can now be scanned automatically. This requires SD 2.0.8.
New features in version 2.0.7
All platforms
• Changed file name conventions:
• Adaptation files now must have the ending ".ADA". This improved compatibility with Windows and Atari.
• On all platforms, file names which are calculated out of a string now also get characters which are not allowed in Windows file names replaced by '_'.
Before, not allowed characters were removed on Windows. On the Mac, only the colon (':') was replaced by '_'.
• E.g.: Adaptation file "DX21/27/100" is now "DX21_27_100.ADA", both on Mac and Windows. On Atari, it is "DX21_27_.ADA"
• Note: there are still conflicts on Atari with Adaptations which are not different in pairs in the first 8 characters of the file name.
• Replaced preferences option "Protect Logic Instruments" by global menu item "Set Logic Instrument". This item is unchecked every time SoundDiver gets into the foreground. If you want to replace a track's instrument, check it by choosing it from the menu or hitting Cmd-Opt-I (Windows: Ctrl-Shift-I). Now, everytime the current device changes, the selected Track's instrument will change accordingly.
• Changed shortcut for "Insert Title" from Cmd-Opt-I (Ctrl-Shift-I) to Cmd-I (Ctrl-I) to prevent collision with global menu item "Set LOGIC Instrument".
• Preferences: New switch "Select Objects by entering name" (default: enabled). By disabling it, entering characters without modifiers no more select objects. In AutoLink mode, the keystrokes are then redirected to Logic.
• Increased MIDI Monitor buffer size from 32 to 256 KB.
• If the last character of the text in a button or box does not fit entirely, the text is no more displayed with "...", but the last character is drawn partially
• New file and window class icons. Note: on the Mac, they appear only after rebuilding the Finder's desktop database by holding Cmd-Opt while booting.
• There are now 3 sort levels (which are also memorized in the library file). If you e.g. first sort by name, then by model, all entries of the same model are listed sorted by name.
Mac only
• direct support for AMT8 and Unitor8 Mk II connected via USB (no OMS required, "hot plugging" is supported)
• If a Mac model does not have a Modem or Printer Port, this is now displayed in the Preferences window, and the port is disabled.
Note: if you use the GeeThree Stealth or Griffin gPort in a b&w G3, you need the accompanying System extension ("Stealth Serial Port Software 1.0.2" from http://www.geethree.com/download.html, or "gPort Driver 1.0.1" from http://www.griffintechnology.com/g3/), otherwise SoundDiver does not recognize this Modem port extension.
Windows only
• When a MIDI in or out port could not be opened, the error message is now more narrative, and you can disable the warnings for the rest of the session. Additionally, there is now only one warning for all Unitor8/AMT8 ports.
• Input buffers for Unitor8/AMT8 ports are now always 2 buffers with 1KB each, no matter what is set in the Preferences. These interfaces work perfectly with this setting. You can bypass this functionality by holding the Shift key when the buffers are allocated (i.e. at startup or while editing the buffer size in the Preferences)
• File operation error messages now also show the reason of the error.
Modules
• New Module "CZ" for Casio CZ-101, CZ-1000, CZ-3000, CZ-5000, CZ-1
• New Module "EX5" for Yamaha EX5, EX5R and EX7.
• New Module "FS1R" for Yamaha FS1R, including full Formant Sequence (FSEQ) editing
• New Module "POD" for Line 6 POD (replaces previous POD Adaptation)
• New Module "Polymorph" for Quasimidi Polymorph

• M5000: Editors now support additional algorithms and now contain the preset names.
• MKS-70: lots of improvements.
• Virus: added full support for Virus OS 2.51
Important bug fixes in version 2.0.7
(Note: make sure that you use Logic Audio 4.0.1 or newer. This revision fixes some AutoLink bugs.)
All platforms
• No more crashes in Randomize (could occur in Modules which may change the size of the entry data during randomizing)
• Crash when trying to import a foreign file format if a K5000 is in the Setup (bug was in the K5000 Module)
Mac only
• Detection if Printer Port is in use by LocalTalk or ARA now works.
Windows only
• Preferences dialog could not be opened on Windows 95 4.0.0.950 without Internet Explorer 4.0 installed.
• AutoLink Multiple Program Change Channel: channels 1..8 were swapped with channels 9..16, i.e. if you wanted to define channel 1, you had to enable channel 9. This resulted in "Sorry, no Program Names..." in Logic
• If Taskbar is at the top of the screen, opening a long flip menu caused a hang.
• Receiving long dumps did not work in AutoLink mode.
• AutoLink: Sometimes very long delay (about 30 seconds) at startup and when receiving dumps
• With very large incoming dumps (> 10 KB), SoundDiver waited for pending input buffers to be returned by the driver only for the time it takes to transmit the buffer size plus 500 ms. However some MIDI drivers can delay delivery significantly due to multithreading. Now, SoundDiver waits indefinitely, and after 1 second, a progress bar is displayed, together with the text "MIDI data is currently being received. Press ESC to abort."
• Crash was possible after error message "File not found" (when trying to reopen a Library) at startup
• Hang possible when trying to open an alert which contains one very long word (e.g. long path/file name)
Modules
• EOS:
• instead of crashing, can now scan future EOS models (will show "Unknown EOS Model")
• M1:
• Crash which occurred when editing effect parameters
• MWII:
• Crash when opening detail view of sounds with effect type > 10 (XT effects)
Adaptations
• Virus:
• Scan function works now
New features in version 2.0.6
• You can now choose the language (currently only English or German) independent from the keyboard layout:
• At the first start, you are asked which language to use. "Auto": this is the old behavior (language depends on keyboard layout).
• Later, the language can be changed in Preferences/Global settings. This however requires to restart SoundDiver.
• Mac: the language selection is saved in the default preferences file "SoundDiver Preferences". Language selection in other preferences files is ignored. This is for technical reason.
• Windows: the language selection is stored in the Registry
• Mac: As the language can now be switched, it would be confusing to have different default preferences files for different languages - and SoundDiver wouldn't even know which file to open. So the default Preferences file is now:
• "<Product name> Voreinstellungen" if this file exists (and this name is <= 31 characters), otherwise
• "<Product name> Voreinst." if this file exists, otherwise
• "<Product name> Preferences" if this name is <= 31 characters, otherwise
• "<Product name> Prefs".
This way, existing Preferences are still used, but new users will now always create the English file name.
Note: on Windows, the default preferences file has always been "<Product name> Preferences".
• New option "Hide values of linear parameters". This option makes editor views smoother, as many numbers and separation lines are hidden:
• slider and knob graphics are displayed larger, as the value is no more shown.
• numerical values are displayed as a knob instead, but only if they are not edited as a flip menu and if they have at least 3 possible values.
Note that this is still an experiment. Some Modules have problems with this option, and some objects still show the value. Later versions of SoundDiver will show the value in the info line when the object is clicked or edited.
• Windows: AutoLink is now available on Windows. All documented AutoLink features are identical to those of the Mac version. However you need Logic Audio Windows 4.0 or higher (not yet released).
• Windows: added a Zoom gadget above the window size gadget.
• Windows: Flip menus can now also be operated by click-holding and releasing the mouse button over the desired value.
• Clicking the selection bar of a bank with only one entry now is handled as if clicking the item itself:
• double-clicking the selection bar opens the entry
• dragging the selection bar drags the entry
• "Save Library for Logic Song": this feature is now also available with the options known from "Build Library..." and "Save as...". This allows users to build a Library for the current Logic Song although they don't use Program Changes in the song.
The previous default action is now located at the bottom of the new sub-menu and named "Entries used by Logic Instruments". The new options use the same library file name and path as the old one (see user manual, section 9.6).
Note: Users who have used Preferences files for project-oriented backups should think about using Libraries instead by using option "Save Library for Logic Song > Known Entries". Advantage: even after you have changed your MIDI setup (e.g. MIDI output assignments), such a Library will still work, thanks to SoundDiver's "intelligent" destionation device finding algorithm (user manual, section 5.11). If you want to load an old Preferences file after your MIDI setup has changed, you would have to adjust MIDI output and Device ID settings manually.
• Windows: SoundDiver is now multi-monitor aware on Windows 98 / Windows 2000.
• If a Module or Adaptation could not be loaded while loading a preferences file, the remaining devices and the screensets are no more ignored (= lost).
• The standard "Edit" button (screwdriver symbol) is now also enabled if the link goes to a ROM entry.
• SoundDiver does no more implicitly copy ROM "children". This allows Module programmers to give dependencies to ROM banks, which will be now shown in the Dependency list in the Memory manager (not all Modules are adjusted yet).
• Menu Item "Windows > Open Editor" is now also available if no entry is selected in the Memory Manager, but there is an edit entry (marked with the small inverted "E").
• Drawing of entry names in the Memory Manager improved: unprintable characters (ASCII code 0..31) are displayed as '?'
• Entries in Dependency lists (Memory Manager and Library windows) now use smaller font.
• New Module MC505 for Roland MC-505 and JX-305.
• New Module DMPRO for Alesis DM Pro.
• New Module MWII for Waldorf Microwave II, Microwave XT and Microwave PC. Currently all versions up to 2.10 are supported. Version 2.0 or higher is recommended.
• JV Module:
• added support for Card/Preset Memory in MM.
• added support for Expansion board "Hip Hop", "Vocal Collection" and "Asia" (Patches & Waves)
• JV1080 Module:
• added support for Expansion board "Hip Hop", "Vocal Collection" and "Asia" (Patches & Waves)
• added support for RAM-Card (model JV-2080 only).
• MR Module:
• now also supports ZR-61, ZR-76 and Perfect Piano Expansion
• QS Module:
• now also supports QSR, NanoSynth, NanoBass, NanoPiano and QS6.1
• added basic access to Cartridge samples in Programs
• Trinity:
• TR-Rack Multi Editor added. Please read the online help - there are some limitations due to bad MIDI implementation in the TR-Rack.
• AutoLink now also works for Combi Timbres and Multi Tracks
• Unitor8:
• support for updating EEPROM, also with version 1.20 on Windows (see Unitor8 Control 1.0.6 readme for details)
• new "Global Settings" editor. Allows you to edit the LED brightness of MIDI In/Out and RS 232/422 ports.
• New Editor/Librarian Adaptations for: Roland JP-8080, Line6 POD
• Virus Adaptation now with Single and Multi editors and support for Multi mode voices.
• GP-8 Adaptation now with editor.
• VG-8/8S1- Adaptation now with editor.
• Pulse Adaptation now supports 2.0 parameters
• Adaptation "Program-Selector": now sends the program change when sending a dump. This allows you to use the Adaptation for Library entries which simply transmit a Program Change. Useful for project-oriented Libraries, including a device currently not supported by SoundDiver.
Important bug fixes in version 2.0.6
• Mac: better compatibility to Kaleidoscope and Appearance Manager when displaying menus.
• Scanning a device which supports the Universal Device Inquiry and has a 3-byte manufacturer code did not work when scanning several models at once.
• Mac: With MacOS 8.5, busybee mouse pointer remained when SoundDiver is activated.
• Scanning Adaptations and creating new Adaptations did not work if there are more than 255 Adaptations in the Diver folder.
• Windows: On Windows 98, moving the IntelliMouse mouse wheel did not work correctly.
• Opening Setup window with a device connected to a Patchbay, but loading Preferences failed inbetween caused a crash.
• Windows: Ctrl-NumLock (Toggle Lock ScreenSet) did not work.
• Displaying a Patch name or choosing "Open SoundDiver for Instrument" in Logic could cause a crash if a device in the setup does not contain any entry data and thus has not yet been initialized. It does not crash always in this case, but at least no or the wrong Memory Manager is opened.
• Windows: If Logic is running, using AudioWerk, SoundDiver hangs at startup. The same bug could also crash Windows Explorer on Windows 98 when starting SoundDiver.
• Windows: If an alert appears on another monitor than the main monitor, it was not centered correctly or even did not appear at all.
• Windows: many help files had wrong formatting in tables.
• Clicking the Edit button for an Entry which is currently disabled in the configuration (e.g. "Show ROM items" switch in Special Parameter disabled) now displays a message instead of doing nothing.
• Windows: DEL key and Ctrl-Shift-Q did not work.
• Windows: Automatically opening an existing Snapshots library when adding a snapshot did not work.
• Windows: Adaptations which have a period in the last four characters of its name appeared incorrectly and multiply in the Install window.
Note: to get rid of the multiple entries, delete the file "Universal Module Preferences.PRF" in the Diver folder. It will be rebuilt at the next start of SoundDiver.
• 01W: several parameter changes were sent wrong in 03R/W Program editor.
• D50: data of disabled Tones and Partials were not memorized in Libraries or when copying. Data of disabled Partials however is important for algorithms with ring modulation. Note: The bug fix required a new format of Patches in the Library. This format cannot be read by older D50 Module versions.
• DP4: Requesting and sending all RAM Presets did not work correctly. This optimization has been disabled. The Module now only combines single banks to single request/dump messages.
• JV: Wave names for SuperSoundSet were wrong.
• JV1080: The expansion wave names for "SuperSoundSet" and "Session" were garbled.
• K2000 Module: diverse bugfixes
• KMX:
• Scanning KMX-8 did not work.
• Scanning KMX-16 with PC Channel different from 1 did not work.
• MR Module now supports all effect types
• QS Module: diverse bugfixes.
• Trinity Module: diverse bugfixes.
• TS:
• names of Presets were wrong
• Effect editor completed
• ULTRAPRO Module: diverse bugfixes
• Unitor8 (Windows): double-click SMPTE frame, enter a value, Return -> Crash
• Scanning Nord Lead 2 or receiving Performances did not work
• Scanning Pulse did not work with very old Pulse OS
To prevent this file from exceeding 32 KB, the changes of version 2.0.1 thru 2.0.5 are omitted here.
